Introduction

The Master of Arts in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme is designed to meet the rapidly growing demand for interdisciplinary tourism professionals within the GBA. As the GBA continues to develop into a major regional tourism hub, there is an urgent need for high-level talent capable of managing cross-border operations, understanding diverse regulatory environments, and delivering quality service standards across Guangdong, Hong Kong, China, and Macao, China. This programme aims to address this talent gap by cultivating a new generation of industry leaders, educators, and policymakers who can support sustainable tourism growth and innovation in the region.

 

Programme Aims and Objectives

The programme aims to develop versatile managers equipped to navigate the complexities of multi-destination tourism development across diverse administrative frameworks, with a strong emphasis on integrating digital solutions. The core learning outcomes include:

 

  • Interpreting and responding to cross-border regulatory variations in operational contexts.
  • Designing integrated, multi-stop visitor experiences that leverage digital platforms and tools to enhance overall expenditure patterns.
  • Applying data-informed approaches and digital analytics to improve visitor flow management and service efficiency.
  • Developing environmentally responsible routing strategies that incorporate digital mapping and monitoring to reduce the carbon footprint of tourism activities.
  • Articulating investment proposals that utilise digital presentation tools and data-driven insights to secure public-private partnership funding for regional projects.

 

Target Participants

The programme is designed for a diverse range of students:

  • Recent Graduates: individuals with undergraduate degrees in tourism, hospitality, leisure and management/business-related fields.
  • Mid-career professionals: tourism, hospitality and leisure management professionals looking to upskill or reskill to stay competitive in rapidly evolving industries.

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Exhibit an advanced and comprehensive understanding of digital tourism and hospitality management practices, processes, and tools (e.g., online booking systems, virtual tours, social media marketing) and their application within industry operations.
  • Critically assess global trends, challenges, and opportunities in digital tourism and hospitality, with particular emphasis on the Guangdong–Hong Kong–Macao Greater Bay Area.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis on the impact of digital technologies (e.g., AI, virtual reality, data analytics) on customer experience, service delivery, and marketing strategies within the tourism and hospitality sectors.
  • Apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of tourism and hospitality management to develop innovative strategies that enhance service quality, customer engagement, and competitive advantage.
  • Design and implement data-driven tourism and hospitality management plans aligned with business objectives, ethical standards, and regulatory frameworks to promote destination branding, customer satisfaction, and operational efficiency.

 

Programme Structure

The Master of Arts in Tourism and Hospitality Management programme is a 24-credit-point (cps) programme comprising four core courses and four elective courses. Each course carries three cps.

    • Individuals who wish to apply for qualification certification in Chinese Mainland after graduation should contact the CSCSE (website: https://www.cscse.edu.cn/) directly for updated details and confirmation. The certification in Chinese Mainland is an independent process from the conferral of academic qualification in Hong Kong, China by the University. For the avoidance of doubt, no warranties are given in respect of individual graduate’s qualification certification or recognition in Chinese Mainland or any other professional qualification or license outside Hong Kong, China.
    • EdUHK, has not collaborated with any agency in Chinese Mainland or Hong Kong, China on admission, and does not encourage students to entrust their applications to any third-party agents and we always contact applicants directly on updates regarding the applications. You must complete and submit your own application via the EdUHK online admissions system and provide your own personal and contact details. Please refer to the official EdUHK channels, such as programme websites and the admissions system, for the required information to complete your application.
    • Students who are enrolled in any full-time award-bearing programmes (lasting for one year or longer) of the University are not permitted to simultaneously register for another qualification at the University or a post-secondary qualification at any institutions except with prior approval by the Board of Graduate Studies. Violation of this regulation will lead to discontinuation of studies from the University. In case of doubt, students should seek advice from the Board of Graduate Studies (via the Graduate School).

      Tuition Fees

      $180,000 per annum (24 credit points)

      Fees subject to adjustment. The University reserves the right to make changes to tuition fee without prior notice. Tuition fees paid are normally not refundable or transferable. Extension fees will be charged to students who have to extend their studies beyond the normative period of study.

    General Admission Requirements

    • Applicants should normally hold a recognised bachelor’s degree or equivalent.
    • Applicants should submit a 500-word GBA career vision statement.
    • Shortlisted applicants may be required to attend an interview.
