Introduction

The Belt and Road Initiative (BRI), launched in 2013, represents one of the most important international development and economic cooperation strategies in recent decade. Encompassing over 140 countries and regions, the BRI has generated unprecedented opportunities and challenges in international trade, investment, infrastructure, and cultural exchange. This dynamic and complex environment necessitates a new generation of professionals equipped not only with advanced business and administrative skills, but also with deep intercultural competence and nuanced understanding of the diverse contexts along the Belt and Road.

 

The Master of Arts in Belt and Road Business Communication and Administration programme is designed to address this growing demand. The programme aims to equip students with the professional knowledge, practical skills, and intercultural communication competencies required to excel in business, administration, and communication roles within the context of the BRI. It e seeks to develop graduates who can effectively navigate the complex economic, social, and cultural environments of the BRI, and who are prepared to contribute to sustainable international cooperation and development.

  • To foster critical thinking and problem-solving abilities for addressing real-world challenges in intercultural business cooperation
  • To cultivate talents for multinational corporations, governmental institutions, orinternational organisations engaged in the Belt and Road development

Programme Intended Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the programme, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate advanced business communication and administration abilities adaptable to diverse intercultural professional environments
  2. Understand cultural differences in Belt and Road countries and regions, and develop appropriate, effective business and administrative strategies
  3. Utilise technology to enhance efficiency in intercultural business communication
  4. Integrate business communication skills with deep intercultural understanding to address real-world problems in Belt and Road business contexts

 

Programme Structure and Curriculum

The MA(BRBCA) programme comprises 24 credit points (cps), which will typically be earned within one year of full-time study. Students will be required to complete 6 core courses (18 cps) and 2 elective courses (6 cps) to graduate.

* These courses use English as its medium of instruction, and students who choose these courses must meet the English requirements as follows:

  • Overall score of IELTS 5.5 (academic version) #;
  • TOEFL score of 59 (internet-based test) #;
  • Band 6 in the College English Test (CET)# with a total score of 430;
  • Grade C or above in GCSE/GCE O-Level English; or
  • Other equivalent qualifications on a case-by-case basis

# The test should be taken in test centres and the result should be valid within two years.

TOEFL Home Editions, TOEFL MyBest Score, IELTS Indicator, IELTS Online, IELTS One Skill Retake, Duolingo and National Postgraduate Entrance Examination are NOT acceptable.

Putonghua (supplemented with English)

Selected courses use English solely as its medium of instruction.

 

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee (2026/27 Cohort) is HKD 165,000 (24 cps) for the whole programme, which is provisional and subject to adjustment. Tuition fees paid are normally not refundable or transferable. Students who still need to take courses to meet graduation requirements beyond the regular study period (one year for full-time) will need to pay a fee for extended study.

The certification in Mainland China is an independent process from the conferral of academic qualification in Hong Kong by the University. For the avoidance of doubt, no warranties are given in respect of individual graduate’s qualification certification or recognition in Mainland China or any other professional qualification or license outside Hong Kong. 
  • EdUHK, has not collaborated with any agency in Mainland China or Hong Kong on admission, and does not encourage students to entrust their applications to any third-party agents and we always contact applicants directly on updates regarding the applications. You must complete and submit your own application via the EdUHK online admissions system and provide your own personal and contact details. Please refer to the official EdUHK channels, such as programme websites and the admissions system, for the required information to complete your application.
  • Students who are enrolled in any full-time award-bearing programmes (lasting for one year or longer) of the University are not permitted to simultaneously register for another qualification at the University or a post-secondary qualification at any institutions except with prior approval by the Board of Graduate Studies. Violation of this regulation will lead to discontinuation of studies from the University. In case of doubt, students should seek advice from the Board of Graduate Studies (via the Graduate School).

General Admission Requirements

Recognised bachelor’s degree or other equivalent qualifications, preferably with relevant working experience. Applicants who are new graduates and have excellent academic performance may also be considered.

 

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants from institutions where English is not the medium of instruction are required to demonstrate English proficiency that meets the programme’s established standards. They should fulfil one of the following English requirements:

Chinese Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants who obtained a bachelor’s degree from an institution outside of Hong Kong, Mainland China, Taiwan and Macau should have attained scores in one of the following Chinese Language or Chinese-related examinations:

  • Level 3 / Grade E in Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSE) / Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) / Hong Kong Advanced Level Examination (HKALE);
  • A score of 110 in the Joint Entrance Examination for Universities in the People’s Republic of China (JEE / Gaokao)(full marks 150);
  • Grade E or above in GCE A-Level/AS-Level;
  • Grade 4/Grade C or above in GCSE/IGCSE/GCE O-Level;
  • Grade 4 or above in International Baccalaureate (IB); or
  • Other equivalent qualifications on a case-by-case basis
