In a bid to foster stronger connections between Hong Kong and Dongguan in the realms of research and technology development, Dr Kevin Yung, Associate Co-Director of Academy for Educational Development and Innovation (AEDI) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) recently embarked on a insightful visit to Dongguan with his team on 18 December 2025.
The primary objective of the visit was to strengthen ties between Hong Kong and Dongguan in research and technology sectors. By engaging with local institutions, businesses, and government bodies, the team aimed to identify areas of mutual interest and potential collaboration. The visit also served as a platform to share insights on educational practices, technological innovations, and strategies for fostering a culture of innovation and research excellence.
During the visit, Dr Yung’s team had the privilege of meeting with several key figures from Dongguan’s political, educational, and technological spheres. Notable among them were Mr. Zheng Jianmin, Chairman of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference and Secretary of its Leading Party Members’ Group; Mr. Lv Jing, Deputy Director-General Level Official of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. Zhong Zhengliang, Director of the Education, Science, Health, and Sports Committee of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. Luo Jianfeng, Standing Committee Member and Full-time Deputy Director of the Education, Science, Health, and Sports Committee of the Dongguan Municipal Committee of the CPPCC; Mr. Wang Zheng, Director of the Digitalization Department of the Teaching and Research Office, Dongguan Municipal Education Bureau; Mr. You Sibi, Deputy Chief of the Talent Introduction Section, Dongguan Municipal Science and Technology Bureau; Mr. Liang Dongming, First-Level Principal Staff Member of the Software and Information Services Industry Section (Artificial Intelligence Section), Dongguan Municipal Industry and Information Technology Bureau; and Mr. Liu Jianeng, Director of the United Front Work Office, Songshan Lake Social Affairs Bureau.
The itinerary was packed with visits to key locations that showcased Dongguan’s technological prowess and educational advancements. The visit commenced with a symposium at the Municipal Political Consultative Conference, where discussions centered around potential collaboration areas and the exchange of ideas. The final stop on the itinerary was Dongguan University of Technology, a premier institution of higher learning in the region. The team toured the university’s state-of-the-art facilities, engaged with faculty members, and learned about the university's achievements in nurturing talent and driving technological innovation. The visit underscored the potential for academic and research collaborations between EdUHK and Dongguan University of Technology.
Dr Yung’s team’s visit to Dongguan was a resounding success, marked by fruitful discussions, insightful exchanges, and the forging of new connections. The visit not only strengthened the bond between Hong Kong and Dongguan in research and technology development but also laid the groundwork for future collaborations.
